Safer, cleaner, brighter success story for BID after first year

Angel AIM’s BID team will celebrate the first year since we started by making a personal visit to businesses in the area to find out what you think of our work.

Our first year has seen the Angel become a safer, cleaner, brighter and more attractive place to visit, shop, live and do business but we want to know how you think we can improve it even more – and if your priorities for your trading area have changed over the past year.

Set up in April 2007 as a ground-breaking joint enterprise between local businesses and those organisations with responsibilities for the area such as Islington Council, the police and Transport for London, we are the borough’s first BID with the goal of making the Angel a better place.

Crime rates have been steadily falling since we set up the dedicated Angel Police Team of seven officers focusing on offences such as shoplifting, mugging, assault, burglary and thefts of bags and moblie phones from bars and cafes. Together with contributions from the police and Islington Council, Angel BID has spent £357,000 funding the team because local businesses told us last year the safety of their customers and staff is top priority.

Making the Angel cleaner and brighter are our other key aims based on the concerns of businesses like you who voted for the BID to deliver extra services which are additional to those already provided. Streets and pavements are regularly deep-cleansed and jet-washed, chewing gum and rubbish removed, bins and bus stops hosed down with fragrant detergent by the BID’s own Euromec machines.

“We are delighted by the success of our first year and look forward to getting to know more businesses personally and tailoring the services we deliver in partnership with Islington Council completely to your needs,” says Angel BID Director Christine Lovett.

“Everyone will have seen our sparkling displays of Christmas lights, the new stalls in Camden Passage and the better facilities in Chapel Market which are attracting even more visitors to a brighter Angel.”

Look out for a letter from members of our BID team who will be writing to you shortly to let you know when we shall be calling in to meet you this summer.
